Avol’s Bookstore, specializing in academic and general used books since 1980, is now Avol’s Books. A portion of our inventory is mingled with the brand-new books belonging to A Room of One’s Own Bookstore, which has taken over our former space. More of our used books can be found in the rooms off the hallway at the back of the store. Avol’s also sells books online at Amazon, ABE, Alibris, and Barnes & Noble.

Book Buying Hours
Noon–6 pm Mon–Sat
and by appointment

If I am not available, sellers can always leave the books they wish to sell at the buying counter and give their contact info (name, phone, e-mail) to one of the clerks at the front counter.

SPACER

Madison’s independent bookstore scene underwent a change in summer 2012 when two locally owned and operated bookstores, A Room of One’s Own and Avol’s Bookstore, consolidated their businesses into a single location. What makes this merger significant is the fact that Room sells new books, while Avol’s specializes in used and out-of-print titles. The new store is a one-stop, full-service bookstore designed to meet the demands of Madison’s book buyers with a great collection of both new and used books. A Room of One’s Own is now located in the space formerly occupied by Avol’s, at 315C W. Gorham, off State Street, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Ron Czerwien, owner of Avol’s, will act as the used-book buyer for the new store, and will continue to sell books online under the Avol’s name.
